If the unnamed "league source" cited by N.Y. Post is accurate and Denver is indeed asking for 4 of the five starters + a no 1 draft choice (attained by moving E. Curry's contract) for Carmelo, then clearly Walsh has to reject such a deal, and even Dolan (or IT) would reject such a lopsided exchange. I wonder, however, if the "league source" is actually one of Walsh's friends planted to provide Donnie an excuse if he cannot consumate a Melo deal.. Or is the report sume junk made up by the Post in order to fill space on their Knicks/Nets sports pages and blogs? Other than the N.Y. Post, there is no confirmation of Denver's demands.
What is and isn't on the table now and at the trade deadline can be substantively different and claims citing unidentified "sources" are often bogus and based on pure speculation or conjecture. Reality will emerge by 3:00 p.m. February 24th if not before.
We can then assess and opine who attained the better of any deal or made the right or wrong decision.
@Post_up_Prince Prince I agree. there is a price that is too high to pay for Carmelo Anthony. I know Anthony has appeared to have angled for the Knicks. He can't punk out now could he? Is he made of stronger stuff or is he the Melo who punked out when Jared Jefferies went charging after him? I'm frankly tired of the teases from superstars. I'm not covetous but Melo's interest in holding steadfast appeared clear till he waffled. Maybe that's just a smoke screen? Maybe he really is a hit and run guy incapable of holding his ground!
on that note, i think it would be great day for DW to talk to some media folk... let them know that the knicks are exploring deals, however we will only make deals that benefit the team. that we have been a financially responsible team over the past couple years, and if necessary we will look to free agency to better our ball club.
@bigshon I concurr Bigshon. Make a firm and fair offer to the Nuggets that keeps a solid semblance of a supporting cast in place and to build off of. Don't sell the whole farm for some good seed! Where will you grow that seed?
totally agree with everyone here.....dolan needs to keep his grubby hands out of this. IMO hes always been a terrible owner, the team is finally gaining cred and any override would only hurt the teams growth. he hired professionals, so let them do their job...and might i add, donnie walsh has been nothing short of awesome, hes done a heck of a job cleaning the mess dolan allowed to fester over this last decade.
the nuggets are clearly delusional, their asking price clearly shows this. can somebody please inform the nuggets that they are not doing us any favors here. the whole world knows that melo wants out of denver. the whole world knows that melo wants new york. the situation is what it is, these guys are about to foreclose on their star player. now is the opportunity to mitigate losses. in this last week before the deadline they can either make a reasonable deal or explain to the fan-base in denver why they let melo walk for nothing.
Only Doop'lan, with over anxious Zeke, can fyck this up.If Melo ever had a plan it was to get to this point.All in, balls out, at the poker table, raise.Denver has to raise and call in the next round.With Walsh, they're playing with the wrong one.They will fold as long as Melo doesn't fold.They can't take the channce of losing everything.They can ask for whatever they want, it means nothing if Melo tells NJ he was serious when he turned them down.The renters would have to be insane if his message is still NY, NY.It's what Melo wants and he sees that.That's why you hire agents.All he needs to do is sit tight and say,"No'.Anybody who's bought a car in February knows that.
@Tman You see what's going clearly T'Man. If the whoopdeedoo hype of today's NBA, IKE, CAA, result in Feilds going. I might join you off this boat as well and cancel my cablevision suscription.
Don't know about you but there was a great line in the Nick Nolte Movei "Blue Chips" where Nolte's coach character realizes that he has sold his soul to the hype of the star studded game instead of the traditional game.
Simply Classic. Most newbies woulnd't get that one.
@Orange_and_Blue Here's apretty good summary for those who don't get the NY papers.
This boils down to Dolan pushing Walsh to make a deal before he bounces Walsh himself and brings Zeke in.Somewhat Shakespearian plot.Donnie wants to use the summer card, but Jimmy the D knows Walsh most probably won't be here in the summer.Interesting.Does Walsh succeed and undermine the reason for him to stay?The tipping point is probably going to be Fields.Denver wants him, Walsh wants to keep him.Dolan and Ike are willing to sacrifice him.Guess which way this will go?Walsh needs to tread a line that keeps Fields to walk out with the winner's laurel.Anything else is a loss.LGK
@Tman I wholeheartedly co-sign T'Man. I got a read coming up to that effect.
The absurd asking price, I'm reffering to. Hell no Peaceman. It's not going to happen this way. I'm tired of the warped imblanaced world that Lebron and his scum pals created!
Let me tell you this. I'm not doing a deal if the asking price is what is being reported in the post.
