The great thing about this blog is that we know our best BBall minds live in the comment section. So every once in awhile we want to make sure to acknowledge that truth and elevate some nuggets of wisdom to the penthouse.
Today, we welcome back Paul Noize, a long time Knick Fanatic, who gave us his view of how Coach Woody should handle the Knick ballers this season. We also like the response from our man Tman, aka coach.
46-36 is my prediction, along with a first round exit.
I think we have a very traditional depth chart that is NOT well suited to playing out of position. We go 2 deep at every position with legit NBA rotation players - 3 deep at PG. That's practically Knee-Deep!
I'd start Shump & Melo at the 2/3 spots and assume that they can be just as good a pair of wings on both ends of the floor as any starting tandem in the NBA. Iman is ready to bust out - I see little value in playing him out of position against bigger small forwards, where he is forced to gamble rather than use his athleticism to make plays defensively.
I'd play Andy & Amare 40mpg combined at Power Forward and demand that they give maximum defensive effort in limited minutes...loudly, publicly, and often. i'd also circle a half dozen games on the schedule and plan to Popovich key guys on those nights.
i'd limit Tyson, Ray & Shump to 30mpg as much as possible to preserve their health, and allow them to play more aggressively w/r/t managing fouls and energy levels.
i'd send Toure Murry & THJR down to DLeague when JR comes back.
Cannot believe we kept Aldrich and Chris Smith instead of Ike Diogu, Lou Amundson, or Jeremy Tyler's 2-year partially guaranteed contract.
Tman's response was equally as provocative:
@PaulNoize Hey Paul, nice to read you again.Like your take but tonights game vs.The Milwaukee WDFaredos'guys?, only saw the end, shows we have various problems, big and little.Letting YMCA league teams come back in the 2nd half is small when you consider our bestest team is with Carmelo at the 4 (bad shoulder and all) and a 36 year old guard playing big minutes.Remember Kidd the Elder being worn to a nub should be our battle cry.Shump needs to play a lot more but DoDoDolan probably told Woody JR is starting, so deal with it.Gabagiani, the poor man's Danelo, was a huge mistake.Metta is very game but only a starter on the Over the Hill gang.Even if we win our share and get to the playoffs that small ball team can't deal with the big boys when things get serious in the chip rounds.Woody knows this but says all the right stuff to the MSM.He needs this job like we all do.
We need a trade to get bigger and better.Maybe next year when Amare's contract is an asset.Love his heart, hate his knees.Oh well, Chi game should tell us exactly how for real we are.All together now, "Let us pray..."
I'll try to make the next convo.Keep writing.
