Interview with Len Berman On Blog Talk Radio (12/18/09 @ 5pm)

Written by Lives on .

SHOW IS AT 5PM

On 12/18/09 @ 5pm, I will interview famed sportscaster and author Len Berman about his new book, The Greatest Moments in Sports, his career in sports journalism and his views on the current state of the Knickerbockers.  The interview will be the initial Blogtalkradio episode of Knicks Fanatics' Full Court Press Show, currently billed as an irregularly scheduled series of  talk specials on a variety of sports and Knicks-related issues.

The Greatest Moments In Sports by Len Berman

Since this is the first time I will be using Blogtalkradio.com, I have no idea how well this will work out, but I look forward to talking with Len about his work as an author of young adult books and a legendary sportscaster.  If you are unable to join me by listening, the show will be archived in the "Full Court Press Show" module down on the right-hand side as well as on this page below.  Let's see how it works.  It may be the beginning of a wonderful way to provide fresh original content and information to our legion of Fanatics.

Blogtalkradio has a call-in component but I think we will hold off on that until I know what the heck I'm doing -- so I expect that to take only a couple of years.

I'll provide more info later.  This is just a quick programming note. BTW, Is anyone up for an LBE tonight or tomorrow?

Knicks Collapse In 4th, Winning Streak Ends At 4

"We win four in a row and we had a chance to win five. I think that's probably the most important thing in the world at that point,. We didn't play like it was." -- Mike D'Antoni

"Coach has put me in a position to succeed. He's put me in a position where I can go out and do what I do best. That's all I've ever asked since I've been here." -- Jared Jeffries

"We feel like we're better than (the Knicks). We feel we're a playoff team that will get to the playoffs." -- Stephen Jackson

After losing Jared Jeffries, who was having a superb all-around game, the Knicks collapsed on themselves defensively and allowed the Bobcats to escape with a victory after a 15-2 run.  Last night's affair, in Charlotte, was very sloppy throughout as the teams combined for 43 turnovers against 37 assists, but until the fourth quarter the Knicks played like the better team.  To the surprise of fans who don't pay attention to the details and delight of those who want him traded for more cap space, Jared Jeffries led the charge on both ends of the floor as he filled the game stat sheet with 11 points, 6 steals, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks, 3 assists and 0 turnovers in 37 minutes.  Unfortunately, when Jeffries picked up his sixth foul at the 2:32 mark, with the Knicks ahead by four, no one else picked up the slack defensively as Raymond Felton knived through the paint for lay ups and the Bobcats converted New York errors into points.

"When you feel good about yourselves and things are going well, good things happen. I think we're due after the first 10 games. We told them we've got another 30 games of banking stuff in." -- Mike D'Antoni.

Knicks Fanatics Hot Links for 12/10/09

Written by LivesInNewJersey on .

Knicks_Fanatics_Hotlinks

Let's see, what's hot this morning.

After four seasons, and despite their losing ways, the Knicks are no longer the most valuable NBA team according to Forbes -- that honor belongs to the Los Angeles Lakers.  Poor Jim and the winning culture at MSG.

Neither Eddie Curry's knee nor head are swollen at this point.  He is ready to play but he understands that he may be out D'Antoni's tight rotation and he does not want to get in  it if he will hurt the teamDavid Lee and Larry Hughes have been thriving in the rotation recently. The Knicks are starting to look like professionals again -- after all they are professionals and most of them, including Lee and Hughes, are playing for their next contract. Is there any wonder that Lee has improved and Hughes looks like a new man?

Many are attributing the new found winning ways to the absence of Nate in the rotation which to this blogger is a bit ridiculous notion if a coach knew how to maximize his strengths.  However, has anyone thought that benching Nate (and having Gallo appropriately come off the bench in favor of starting Harrington) finally showed the team that D'Antoni was committed to winning now and was ready to show it with discipline.  Now players know that those who are in line to play the way D'Antoni wants them to will play and others will sit. Additionally, sitting Gallo (after he contracted "jump-shooters elbow") showed that D'Antoni was willing to be more fair about his favoritism. Opps, that sounds like an article and not just a link lead.  Sorry. Nate rumors are on the trading block; I'm not sure that Nate is however.

It appears that since the Knicks are doing better, as are D'Antoni and Danilo Gallnari, the team may be going to Italy after all for pre-season exhibitions next summer after they snag that coveted free agent.

Impressive Knicks Roll Over Blazers For 3rd Straight Win

"Once you start playing and winning and having hope, a lot of this is psychological. They just have a better feeling about themselves and more confidence, and I think too as we go forward we should be able to get better." -- Mike D'Antoni

Wow.  Can anybody explain what just happened last night?  Whatever it was, it was fun.  More later tonight.

The High Five: Trading Questions With Bust A Bucket's Sheed

Written by LivesInNewJersey on .

Now this is exciting.

Tonight Sheed of Bust A Bucket has agreed to come by the Fanatic Penthouse during tonight's live blog and share in some libations and lively conversation about everything Knicks and Blazers.  If you don't know, Bust A Bucket is one of the best b-ball blogs on the Bloguin network and beyond. They are our kinds of people -- original, inquisitive and provocative.  To get in the right frame of mind (surely a tough task for a Blazer fan just having lost Greg Oden to a devastating knee injury) for tonight's game, Sheed and I decided to ask each other five questions about our respective teams.  You can view my answers to his questions by paying them a visit at Q and A With a Knicks Blog.   My Q and A for Sheed follows:

Bust A Bucket

LIVES: The big news, of course, is the surgically repaired busted knee cap of the big man, Greg Oden. Do you think that Oden will ever reach the potential we saw in him at the draft or is he now to be marked a bust?

SHEED: It's always been about potential for Greg. For years he's dealt with injuries and shown flashes of brilliance which had teams salivating on draft day 2007. A 7-footer with extreme athleticism and major upside, he was slated to be the next great big man.

If a player can be called a bust for injuries, then so be it. But for me, a bust is someone who physically underperforms when healthy. I have no doubts that Greg can be a monster contributor if he can stay healthy and I will probably never call him a bust, only unlucky. It's still very early in his career, and even though things are leading to a devastating conclusion, he may come back next year stronger than ever and put together a years of great basketball. I will always believe in 52.

Bust A Bucket

LIVES: This past summer you picked up an excellent point guard in Andre Miller but he is not starting. Instead Nate has Steve Blake leading the charge.  Do you think this is a mistake and will Andre ever fit in?

SHEED: I have always been a huge Andre Miller fan, and when I found out we'd be getting him, I was very excited. I saw the signing as a great bargain and an opportunity for Portland to add a legit passing point guard who could create more shots for this talented young Blazer team.
