Look Who's Talkin' Knicks?

Barkley-May-Be-Wrong

It's hard to tell what we're going to get with the current Knicks team that has been put together.  Certainly, given the talent, real and diminished, the potential to make a better run at the Chip than we did last year is possible.   However, even if the Knicks are any good their biggest problem will be the level of chemistry which certainly will not match that of other contenders such as the Thunder, Spurs, Celtics and Heat.  Nevertheless, the off-season moves have gotten the attention of the talking heads, like Shaquille O'Neal, who likes the Knicks, and Charles Barkley who disses them, and the contenders.

Of course Charles Barkley and Shaquille O'Neal always have something (or nothing, depending how you look at it) to say and it is their job to talk about the Knicks.  However, as Shaq settles into his new career as an over-educated analyst and Barkley perfects his role as huggable but disposable curmudgeon, it's the expressions of Chris Bosh, center/forward for the Champion Heat, that are more most noteworthy.

Bosh, now accepting his role as a center for the Heat, said “I just want to say — the freakin’ Knicks, man.  I think they’re going to be a good team. Nobody’s really talking about them, and I don’t like it. They’re flying under the radar right now. I think the Knicks are going to be a very good team.”

Which Forgotten Brooklyn Prodigy Should Be Remembered As One Of The Greatest of All Time According to Dr. J, The Big O, Iceman, Larry Brown and Donnie Walsh?

It may not seem like it, based on our recent emotionally driven, factually deficient fetish for J.R. Smith, but Knicks Fanatics are smart and passionate historians especially when it comes to remembering great home-grown ballers.  In a previous Thread, our coach and conscience, Tman of Bball, reminded us of Brooklyn legend Roger "Rajah" Brown.  A Brooklyn High School phenom before his career was derailed- by false accusations of criminal activity, he re-emerged as an ABA star which is where is legend grew but stayed shrouded by the lack of exposure.  Now there is a documentary on Roger Brown.  Tman graciously provided us the link which we now offer to you as Penthouse room service.  Enjoy.  Be educated, and we'll stop sucking on J.R.s potential instead of feasting on the realization of real New York talent.  Peace and Blessings.

McGRADY AUDITIONS TO JOIN "GRUMPY OLD KNICKS" SET

Written by Admin on .

tracey McGrady As A Knick, Again?Apparently MSG was reconstructed to play the part of an old folks home in the off-Broadway (and NBA travel) rendition of "Grumpy Old Men."  A few days ago the Knicks took a look at 33-year old Tracey McGrady as a possible addition to the 15 man squad which has become a way station to retirement for the likes of Kurt Thomas (age 39), Jason Kidd (age 39), Marcus Camby (age 38) and Pablo Prigini (age 36). While there is no certainty that McGrady, who worked hard to overcome a mjaor knee injury to return to the league, will re-join the Knicks J.R. Smith is one Knick who believes McGrady could help the team.

J.R. stated, "We need all the help we can get in every area (now that Jeremy Lin has ditched us for more money). . . . So whenever a big name comes up that can help our team, we've got to get him."*

In all seriousness, McGrady, may not be the piece to a championship puzzle, but he is not a bad addition to any team.  McGrady, injured in 2008, didn't play regularly unitl he played in 72 games for Detroit during the 2010-2011 season. Last season McGrady played in 52 games. He looked solid on the court for the Atlanta Hawks for whom he averaged 16 minutes, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 5.3 points per game.  McGrady did not look like a liability on the court when he played -- at least not more of a defensive liability than he had been as a star.  His tenacity and professionalism are always of value, so it would not be the worse thing in the world to award him the last spot on the squad.  However, it's not earth shattering news either.

Do you think he will help or fit in?

*Editors' Note: The parentheticals are not what he said but what he was thinking according to the Knicks Fanatics Psychic consultant

Lives Retires

Written by Admin on .

Knicks Fanatics writer and admin Lives In New Jersey Loves New York, aka Lives, announced his retirement from Knicks blog writing.  Lives released his decision not to write articles for Knicks Fanatics in a written statement:

"I'd like to thank all the Fanatics, many of whom have become personal firends for allowing me to serve as one of the leaders on a fantastic blog about my favorite teams.  Unfortunately, due to personal priorities, all of which are good, and thebelief that I will be unable to sustain the level of excellence throughout the season which we all havee enjoyed, I am compelled to retire from writing and managing other activities for the blog.

It has been an absoulute pleasure watching and dicussing the Knicks with you guys.  Despite my retirement, I promise that the administration will continue to provide you an opportunity to enjoy your team and the blog fellowship through regular articles and live blogs.

If any of you need to get to me, you know where I am, just an e-mail away.

Peace and Blessings,

Lives."

Obama compared Mitt Romney to Jeremy Lin. I don’t get it.

From "Probasketballtalk" Sept , 3, 2012.

"No matter what moves Mr. Romney made, the president said, he and his team were going to cut him off and block him at every turn. “We’re the Miami Heat, and he’s Jeremy Lin,” Mr. Obama said, according to the aide." We all know what Obama is saying here. Lin is and will always be a fluke. ROFLMAO

WHO IS JR SMITH?????????

Written by Peaceman on .

Who is JR Smith today? THE MOST DANGEROUS UNDERRATED/UNDER-PAID SG IN THE HISTORY OF THE NBA!

It is undeniable Smith has brought most of this on himself. He is the one who has failed to live up to his talent. He is the one who has made mistakes on, and most tragically, off the court. He is the one who has chosen to storm off the court and remove himself from his team.

Despite all of this, I, for one, still hold out hope that Smith, 26, can prove his detractors wrong.

Smith burst onto the scene sharing Most Valuable Player honors with another young phenom named Dwight Howard in the 2004 McDonald’s all-American game, which included other young talents like Josh Smith, Rajon Rondo, Rudy Gay, Marvin Williams and LaMarcus Aldridge. That night, J.R. Smith drained five 3-pointers and threw down a slew of nasty dunks. After the game, he claimed he was inspired by the presence of a young N.B.A. star sitting courtside named Carmelo Anthony. That night ignited his N.B.A. career.

Despite his tremendous abilities, after his second season in the league, he saw two teams give up on him in less than a week. He was traded from New Orleans to Chicago after two years of clashing with Hornets Coach Byron Scott. Chicago shipped him to Denver six days later in exchange for Howard Eisley’s nonguaranteed contract and two conditional second-round picks. It was a trade John Hollinger claimed would become known as the most one-sided trade of all time.

The Nuggets had been desperate for a shooting guard who could actually shoot since the days of Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf. Denver was also searching for a second scorer who could take some of the weight off Anthony’s shoulders. Smith seemed to be the answer on both counts.

EIGHT seasons later, here we are. The book on Smith’s career has already been closed. He is the shooter without a conscience, the player who never fulfilled his boundless promise.

I have watched Smith closely ever since he took the McDonald’s game by storm, and I believe the book needs to be reopened. For all the limitations that are thought to be part of Smith’s game, the truth is there is nothing he cannot do on the basketball court.

The long-range bombs and dynamic dunks are just a small part of Smith’s repertory. Most fans are unaware of his fantastic passing skills, his ability to drive and finish with either hand, his rebounding acumen and his defensive abilities. There were times in Denver when he even played point guard and did it quite well.

I have seen Smith run an underutilized and deadly pick and roll with Nene enough to know that he can help Amar’e Stoudemire get more easy looks at the rim. I have seen Smith take over games, not with his long-range shot, but with his ability to drive and finish at the rim. I have seen Smith take the responsibility of covering Kobe Bryant and not get embarrassed in doing so. And of course I have seen Smith drain 3-pointer after 3-pointer as the crowd explodes in adoration.

I cannot guarantee Smith will do all of those things, especially not all in the same game. It is certainly possible that his time as The Man in China, where he averaged a league-leading 34.4 points per game, has only served to solidify his bad habits.

What happens from here depends largely on whether Smith can heed instruction. He earned the tag of not responding to guidance through his early conflict with Scott and through Karl’s open frustration. However, there are many fans in Denver who believe Karl was the wrong coach for Smith. With a team full of headaches over the years in players like Allen Iverson, Kenyon Martin and even Anthony, Smith was lost in the shuffle. In fact, on one occasion when pressed with why he did not do what Karl would ask of him, Smith responded that he would go long stretches without Karl even talking to him.

Now Smith will be under the tutelage of a more player-friendly coach in Mike Woodson. There is no system more tailor-made for Smith’s talents than Woodson's style. Smith very well could play the role of Joe Johnson to Ray Felton's Steve Nash. Smith will be unstoppable taking advantage of his catch and shoot opportunities set up by Ray, the possibilities in transition and his ability to devastate an unprepared defense with his penetration.

By Re-signing with the Knicks, Earl Smith III is in position to recreate the narrative that has hung around his neck like a millstone since his days in New Orleans. My sincere hope is that both he and Knicks fans embrace that opportunity. I believe that is who Earl Smith III is today!
