We've all waited for this season. Some more than others. This is our year. " I would not be coaching if my goal were other than to win a championship..Mike Woodson* The Knicks open up Pre-season Thursday 10-11-2012 on NBA TV at 7PM vs the Washington Wizards. Next up Saturday the 13TH is a MSG game vs the Celtics. To all you non-believers.... it don't matter....we are going to win it all.
I'm not sure how we will roll with Coveritlive now being very expensive. I'm not sure what our options are, however, we will figure something out. All these years getting our asses handed to us and now we are going to the Grown men's Big Dance to take it all and no Coveritlive?????? Any suggestions please let us know! ONE LOVE ..KNICKS FANATICS FOREVER!
Woodson gives "Lip Service" to Berman about JR Smith.
"“Like I told J.R. ,IF he comes off, there’s nothing wrong with that. Hell, he could be the best player coming off the bench in this league and maybe be the Sixth Man of the Year Award. Hopefully that will translate to a lot of wins and get us to a championship round because at the end of the day that’s what we’re in it for.’’
Please note the word "IF"......Woodson 's words were to warn JR about Dolan's policy to not talk to the NY MSM..... Woodson cannot afford to lose JR'S respect.
JR reportedly signed his extension with a handshake of starting and a player option for only 2.8 Million next year.
Carmelo Anthony, who played with Smith for nearly five years in Denver, said his longtime friend can’t let his specific role distract him.
“Whenever J.R’s number is ready to be called, he’s got to be ready, whether he’s a starter or whether he’s a sixth man,” Anthony said. “I don’t think he controls that or he should be worrying about that. "IF" Coach Woodson wants him to start, then he’ll start. If not, then he’ll come off the bench and do what he does best: offense.’’
Off Topic:The Late Manute Bol's seventh grade 6'5' son may be coming to a Draft near you in a few years!
I'm with you Peaceman. I'm excited for the season. Many are already overlooking our team and that's okay. Staying healthy is our key. LGK!!!
JR Smith is making money off endorsements already. Here he is in Sean Paul's new Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PukKW3gY4uo&feature=player_embedded#!
The Need for Sheed? Marcus Camby, will likely miss the first two preseason games with a strained left calf.
Fanatics... would one of you computer savoy fellows look at this
It seems we can do the same thing as cover it live for only $10.00 a month with a 10 day free trial. Please check it out and get back to me.
Knicks Training Camp
The New York Knicks have opened their October 2012 training camp with 20 players. The Knicks official training camp roster includes the following players:
Carmelo Anthony F 6-8
Oscar Bellfield G 6-2
Ronnie Brewer G 6-7
Marcus Camby C 6-11
Tyson Chandler C 7-1
Chris Copeland F 6-8
Raymond Felton G 6-1
Jason Kidd G 6-4
Steve Novak F 6-10
Pablo Prigioni G 6 -3
Iman Shumpert G 6-5
John Shurna F 6-9
Henry Sims C 6-10
Chris Smith G 6-2
J.R. Smith G 6-6
Amar'e Stoudemire F-C 6-11
Kurt Thomas F 6-9
Mychel Thompson F 6-6
Rasheed Wallace F-C 6-11
James White G-F 6-7
The team can only field a total of 15 players, so that 5 will ultimately have to be cut and some will accept assignment to the D League. The 15 players who will likely be retained include:
Point Guards: Raymond Felton, Jason Kidd and Pablo Prigioni
Shooting Guards: J R Smith, Ron Brewer (on injured reserve until mid or late November) and Iman Shumpert (on injured reserve until January 2013).
Centers: Tyson Chandler, Marcus Camby, and Rasheed Wallace
(contract not as yet guaranteed, contingent upon training camp showing).
Small Forwards: Carmelo Anthony, Steve Novak, James White
Power Forwards: Amare Stoudemire, Kurt Thomas.
Knicks thus have 14 spots virtually filled, assuming that Rasheed Wallace makes the team, with one spot competitively open to players based on their showing in training camp as well as in preseason games. Barring serious injuries to veterans or some spectacular showing in the preseason, I would guess that the most likely players to be cut or assigned to the D League would be be Oscar Bellfield, John Shurna and Henry Sims and Mychel Thompson. Chris Smith, J.R.’s brother, will be given a close look, but unless the Knicks want to carry 4 point guards or unless J. R. negotiated a commitment from the team to sign his brother Chris, in return for signing a reasonable free agent's veteran’s salary. From what I could see, Chris Smith showed little during the Vegas Summer League, and unless he can prove otherwise,, the most likely place for the JR’s sibling will be the Erie Bayhawks of the D League. James White also showed little in Vegas, but has great athleticism and, more significantly, a guaranteed contract. Based on my limited perspective, Chris Copeland should have a fair shot at making the 15th roster spot. He showed impressive flashes during the Vegas Summer League, including an outside J and rebounding talent. He could very well be considered for a small forward backup to Melo. He is 6’8 with a hard body and could on occasion play power forward. He will be worth watching during preseason games, if he gets any minutes.
MSG will televise two Knick specials next week: On Monday, October 8th at 9:00 p.m. “Knicks Night Live” and on Tuesday, October 10rth at 9:00 p.m.: “Knicks Training Camp Live.” I also look forward to the first preseason game — Knicks v. Wizards to be televised by MSG starting on Thursday, October 11th at 7:00 p.m. LGK
Looking forward to the Season Ladies & Gents. No, I have not forgot about my favorite Knick Fanatics. Peaceman, you are a trooper. Keeping the Fanatic Vibe alive along with all the other Brothers and Sisters I care about deeply.
It feels good to back!
Keep it POPPIN!
We can try a running commentary via the regular blog. Just post as always. There may be a lag in responses or a delay between game action and posts, but we can still communicate. Another possible approach could be a Knicks Fanatics chat room set up with Facebook or Twitter, AOL or some other server. I have no idea, however, how that is set up or if it could work for our purposes.
@rockman All the streams we recomended last year are full of Malware and viruses. Please stay away from them.
@Peaceman In the absence of Brewer and Shumpert, it would be best if JR came off the bench rather than start. Except for Novak, there are no shooters on the second unit and if Novak is alone, he will be too closely guarded and the Knicks offense will suffer accordingly. Woody isn't giving Berman lip service, but rather in my view stating the importance of fielding an effective second unit that has some offensive punch. Once Shumpert returns, and if his shooting skills improve, JR may get to start. Shump has been working on improving his shooting skills intensively. I watched Shump in training camp practice bank shots from around 10 -12 feet from the basket and he nailed, albeit unguarded, at least a dozen in a row. JR, Shump and Novak will benefit from Kidd's pg leadership on the 2nd unit--something missing from last year's team. Notwithstanding who starts, JR will likely be inserted at the close of games.
Good to E-see you DLT. Tonight at 9PM MSG will rebroadcast a televised broadcast of training camp. Word from my insider at knicks camp says JR Smith has been unstoppable on both ends.
He stated JR has out played everyone including Melo. Felton is in great shape and Copeland is a pure Animal. TWT .... we atill don't know how we are going to cover the first pre-season game on Thursday. It's at 7PM on NBA TV & MSG. Anybody have an idea on how we live blog let me know.
@Peaceman Kobe is also going on the shelf for the first couple of PRE-season games. MSM is all over our age. BFD. Wall will be out in DC until the start of the real season. Our troop has been in the trenches for the past three weeks and with JKidd running the show. Sheed was running full tilt in pickups with the squad until training camp started. The fellas have seen what IT saw and they like. Now the fun starts. Hope they don't coast until the playoffs because a higher seed will bring more Benjamin to DolanITe. TWT so WWW.
Still IT will be tiring having to read about the "old squad and injury prone" Bunk. Insurance companies already know they will have to help MSG carry this load this year. It's about time cause they love to take and seldom give.
Prince ...your post is penthouse material. Wallace is cemented in our lineup. He does not need the money ..he's made over 156 Million his career and keep in mind he left 13 million on the table when he retired from Boston. Rasheed sees a chip..Period!
Told all of you JR Smith made a deal to sign at the basement bargain level to START not come off the bench.
While Knicks coach Mike Woodson has run from the Lin issue, center Tyson Chandler was blunt, saying Lin was too “inexperienced’’ and their point-guard trio of Raymond Felton-Jason Kidd-Pablo Prigioni is an upgrade over last season’s Lin-Baron Davis-Mike Bibby troika.
Good to E-read you Cooley!
@Post_up_Prince All these are good ideas. Just a matter of knowing where everyone is for the game. We Fanatics can't be denied. We have seen it all in Knicks fandom.
Good ideas are needed. Remember how BARF would lead us before coveritlive? Thus earning him the nick name BARF Johnson.
We need all you computer savoy heads to come up with ideas or something similar to Coveritlive. Here is a link some of you may understand better than I
PUP...I'll bet your Ranch back that JR will be our starting PG this whole Chip season. If you win you owe me back taxes...but that is not going to happen. It's in Stone JR shook DOLAN'S hand on 2.8 Milliomn when he could have 5 Times that every and anywhere!
@Peaceman Tru dat, Peaceman, I've been hearing the same. Ray is in great shape and has a chip on his shoulders. GOOD! I've been watching the edited highlight tapes from training camp. Was impress today to hear JKidd is passing on knowledge, advice to the team and showing the team leadership and direction. The vets will be big leading this team. Again, just hope JKidd, Camby, KThomas, Palbo and Sheed don't show their age. I like this kid Copeland, we need young energy, hope he makes the team. Also hearing good things about the Novak-like John Shurna. Pure shooter, much, much cheaper than Novak and could give the Knicks an opportunity to trade Novak, to get an asset. Just blogggin'.
@Peaceman Thanks for the recognition. I agree that the trio of Felton (if he returns to form) along with Kidd and Prigioni is an upgrade over last years point guard group including the injured B Davis, J. Lin (only 25 games) and M. Bibby (way past his prime) + T. Douglas who was absolutely ineffective. The current group of pg's should be o.k. on offense but the D is not much better than last year's crew. As I see it, Felton's resurgence is key to the season success. Chemistry may also take awhile.
If the pg's can manage to guard the perimeter, the big guys in the middle (Chandler, Camby and Rasheed) can cover the lane better than what was available last season. Rasheed and Camby as well as K. Thomas should also strengthen the rebounding effort on the 2nd unit. Knicks gave up too many 2nd opportunities to opponents because of their failure to rebound. The new no-flop rule may somewhat limit K. Thomas' game on D.
@Peaceman I'll take the bet. Woody is the coach and if he needs JR off the bench, then JR will come off the bench. JR has to accept the idea of team first, not me first, and get with the program. JR will get his share of minutes and more shot opportunities on the 2nd unit plus the time he will get in closing games. If JR is not announced on the starting five in the 1st game against Miami, you owe me my ranch back. If JR starts, I will pay you the back property taxes but you will need to eat this year's home insurance coverage.
