Chris Paul denied the Los Angeles Clippers' three-year extension 60 Million dollar offer Saturday night. Plain and simple ..... Paul wants to be a Knick and Tyson Chandler may be the one who has to go to make it happen.
Lot of NBA execs believe Chris Paul is still hoping to find a way to get to the Knicks...won't happen this summer. Maybe next July
What say ye Bloggas about taking only Ty Chan to London and jump Center? An anathema? The death of the Big Man (as opined by Statesman, Tman and Modi in these here parts)? Or is this a case of bringing chess pieces to a checkers match? Please add wit here. Just Bloguin over 100 comments on Fifty-Fifty lead.
I like the Kidd move. Firstly, 3 mil a year is nothing, and I'm not sure you can do better at that price. Like that he can mentor Lin. Also, like that Kidd starts game to get Melo and Amare more touches (and alley-oops for Chandler), and Lin's scoring becomes more valuable as a back-up and should get more minutes than Kidd. Again, it is only 3 million.
ESPN is reporting Kidd will be a Knick
Desperate move agreed, 3yrs and 9 mil, that said he may be smart enough to rein in Melo and reinvigorate Amare. He's just so old.Can he play major minutes?Got to wait on this one.He was a great player, smart tough, a winner.Maybe he can...
J-Kidd? 10 Years to late!!. This is a move of desperation. He's done. he Net have move forward (Brooklyn), resigned Wiliams to run the point, and the Knicks have moved backwards o signing a guy that is doing is retirement tour. This ranks up there with some of Isiah's best/worst, or Donnie signing Duhon to start.
Linsanity put the Knicks in a bind as hey attempted to serve two masters(basketball & marketing). Never has a player cotributed so much in one aspect while offering so little on the court. This is the negative side of Globalization and Branding. You take losses to expand your product with the emphasis on the numbers and not your product.
J. Kidd + Linsanity <Mario Chalmers
Peace & Blessings
Many Free Agent Point Guards Taken:
D Williams --Nets
S. Nash -- Lakers
G. Dragic - Suns
J. Nelson--reported to have recently resigned with Magic
J. Kidd -- close to resigning with Mavs
Ramon Sessions and Ray Felton are still out there, but Sessions will want more than Knicks can pay. Felton is an option if (1) he is in better shape than he was at the end of last season and (2) he is willing to take the veteran's minimum not the MLE exception. If Ray Felton gets a better offer from another team, he may walk away as well. Knicks are virtually compelled to resign Lin at "luxury tax" prices. GM Grunwald needs to invite a number of PG's to their summer league team and/or training camp.
Suns reported to have signed Goran Dragic for $34 million over 4 years. See:
Suns also have verbal offers and commitments form Michael Beasley (3 years for $18 million and Eric Gordon (4 years at $58 million). http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8131044/sources-michael-beasley-verbally-commits-three-year-18-million-deal-phoenix-suns.
With the Laker draft picks attained in the Nash trade, Phoenix is building a very competitive team down the road.
Paul's decision was a formality, as the star guard could re-sign for $48 million more after next season. Paul will make $17.7 million next season, the final year of his current contract, and will wait until the end of the 2012-13 season to sign a max five-year, $108 million extension, according to the Times report.
The move took place mere hours after the Knicks believed they were in the lead to land Nash, who could have gone to New York by way of a sign-and-trade as well. But according to sources, the Lakers came on late to do the deal while Knicks' higher-ups were still contemplating a possible offer that would have included promising young shooting Iman Shumpert.Read more: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/sam_amick/07/04/steve-nash-trade-phoenix-suns-los-angeles-lakers/index.html#ixzz1zj4IRpCD
You slow, you blow
With Nash gone, Knicks will now likely go after Jason Kidd or Ray Felton (or both). Jameer Nelson and Ramon Sessions will likely want more than the Knicks are prepared to pay.
Breaking News: Lakers land Steve Nash for draft picks
Update From Newsday:
The Knicks remain very much alive in the Steve Nash sweepstakes and may have emerged as the frontrunners to land him if they can work out a sign-and-trade with the Suns.
According to multiple reports, the Knicks and Suns were discussing such a deal that would bring the future Hall of Fame point guard toMadison Square Garden.
The package the Knicks would send Phoenix could include Iman Shumpert, Toney Douglas, Dan Gadzuric and $3 million cash. Nash would get a three-year deal for between $27 million and $30 million. The Knicks could add Josh Harrellson and Jerome Jordan in the trade as well to get Nash as much money as possible.
The Knicks have been reluctant to include Shumpert in any trade because they see him as a big part of their future. But they are in win-now mode and think Nash would be the missing piece for a team with a frontline of Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler.
One report, however, said the Knicks were trying to include a third team so they didn't have to trade Shumpert, who had a strong rookie season and was the Knicks' best perimeter defender.
Nash already has received a three-year, $36 million offer fromToronto. Reports said the Raptors would try to make moves to try and increase what they offer Nash.
On Tuesday, Toronto gave Knicks restricted free agent Landry Fields a three-year offer sheet worth roughly $19 million. It was expected that would derail the Knicks from getting Nash since Fields was a piece the Suns were interested in if they executed a sign-and-trade.
The CBA states that if a team matches an offer sheet for a restricted free agent they can't subsequently deal him in a sign-and-trade.
But apparently Nash is strongly considering the Knicks and they're exploring whether they can get something done with the Suns. If they can't, the most the Knicks can pay Nash is either the $3.09 mini midlevel or full midlevel of $5 million depending on what other moves they make.
As a result, the Raptors and the Mavericks, who are expected to pursue Nash now that Deron Williams has decided to stay with the Nets, still are in play for the 38-year-old point guard.
If the Knicks fail in their attempts to get Nash they could up their pursuit of Jason Kidd and Raymond Felton. The Knicks also plan to re-sign or match any offers restricted free agent Jeremy Linreceives.
Lin is meeting with the Houston Rockets Wednesday and it's been reported they may offer him a back-loaded four-year deal worth more than $30 million. But the Knicks hopes are to have Lin play with and learn from Nash.
If a deal for Nash goes through, the Knicks would still have the low-level exception. Marcus Cambyand Rashard Lewis could be possibilities for that. They Knicks are expected to re-sign J.R. Smith to a one-year deal and Steve Novak remains a part of their plans.
The Knicks also agreed to terms on a one-year guaranteed deal with 6-foot-7 James White, according to his agent Bill McCandless. White, a second-round pick in 2006, played 10 games for the Mavericks and Rockets. He's spent of most of his career in the D-League and overseas, including Italy this past year.
@Steady Who really gives a shyte? These games are just filler for TV and those who snooze during baseball.Since the Originak Dream Team et al. ravaged and plundered the Olys these games are 2nd rate entertainment for sports junkies.42% in a recent pole said they'd rather watch paint dry than the Games.Hype, hype, hype. How much track and field, swimming, gymnastics, etc. do you usually watch?Whatever. Is there any doubt you put the 12 best US pros out there, ideally including the injured ie D-wight, et al and you have a Rucker Rout. That said if you don't bring your bigs to the party u can have your ass handed to you.Euros understand size and brutality under the boards. You have to get the ball first so putting Chandler out there by himself means your forwards have to hammer the boards. That and an aggresive D that nullify's the outside shot should do it.If not, so what?Look for NBA players to be banned from next Olympics. The owners don't like the risk factor for their milli $ investments and the point has emphatically been made. Our pros are better than anyone else's pros.
Hassan, it was live TV ..but here is the Daily News saying the same thing http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/knicks/ny-knicks-favorites-sign-free-agent-point-guard-raymond-felton-source-article-1.1108210?localLinksEnabled=false
@MODI This is the Alpha dog with a ring who will gel quickly with the glue guy (TyChan) and get our two stars to perform at peak levels albeit as frienenemies. Match Lin who can play though everyone is entitled to his/her own @$$hole and the matter that comes out. Add a serviceable PG with thread and big game experience here or there. JR re-signed adds scoring and depth if given PG duties--he can set up the offense and bring 6th man ISOB. Novak Is also a keeper and not too many GMs willing to take a flier on a less athletic spot shooter (supposedly in the lab this summer working on dribble-drive-shoot). Good luck with that. Otherwise there is collusion going on or is IT TST? TWT
Back and getting closer.
@MODI Looking at all the JKidd negatives I still find it impossible to root against a guy with his body of work, just a great player.BD was damaged goods, JKidd is in better shape and just a smarter ballplayer.Don't like the length of the contract but 3 mil is small change nowadays.Hate that the move was made out of weakness, but a guy with Kidds game can't hurt a squad that needs brains and experience at the helm.Too bad Fields is gone, Kidd would have helped him.I like this move despite its obvious weak points. We got better,
@MODI I agree Modi. Kidd needs to provide 15 - 20 minutes a night. He can tutor Lin--as did Baron Davis before Lin's injury sidelined him for rest of season. Nash would have been better overall, but not at price paid by Lakers. Kidd can contribute and knows what it takes to win. Like Chandler, Kidd has a ring. Nash does not. LGK
@Statesman It is clear who Statesman would not have running point? Who then would Statesman have running point at Mecca
@Post_up_Prince No way do we pay someone Luxury tax money that may come off the bench for 10 minutes. REPOST
THIS GUY BETTER BE IN OUR CAMP.... FUCH LIN
@Post_up_Prince ?......and now Lowry is going to Toronto. Could have been a good sign-n-trade for Lin. Guess Dolan likes the$$$ Lin brings in. He won't bring us the Rings
@mblknicks So Chris Paul said this to the times? Or is this just another MSM hacks opinion????? The correct number for his MAX is 105 for 5 years. CP3 has publicly stated he wants to play with Amare and Melo to stop the Miami dynasty from happening. He is God Father to Melo's son and would make more money in endorsements bringing a chip to the APPLE than if he signed two max contracts in Clipper land. Please provide the link to CP3 stating he is doing this to make max money and stay with the clippers.
CP32PenPlaza at trade deadline 2013. Dock it!
@mblknicks Akin to the JR or Deron opt outs where they cash in to return. Just a splash of reality on Fifty-Fifty.
@Tman If Shump can recover with full strength from his knee injury, the Knicks will thank their stars that the Lakers saved them from giving away a young future star for an aging p.g. whose effectiveness and minutes will be diminished if not lost altogether within two years. Shump is the most promising player the Knicks drafted in a decade.
@Post_up_Prince 2 steps back, one forward
@Peaceman JD is in a pissing contest with Houston. He could have signed Lin for the mid level exemption but he followed Grunge and co. advice to let the market set the price.Too bad, it's either gonna cost him a lot of money or a lot more money.Dumb, de Dumb Dumb.He deserves it.Walsh has to be laughing his long balls off.Good for him.
Keep wishing and praying for those DLeaguers to save our asses. You better hope Ray Ray has a forgiving heart.
@Peaceman Maybe Grunwald throws in the rights to the Greek draft choices along with the rest of the bench players being offered. Hope they can somehow keep Shumpert.
@Tman Steady sees the point being made...our pros are better than the rest of the world'$. The other point about the billionaires' control of the millionaires, Steady reads from another $cript. Look for a movement championed by Entrepreneurial Emcee Mark Cuban with Dan Gilbert and MJ in tow pushing for the World Cup of Basketball. All that is mi$$ing is the deal point$ and the pur$e $plIT as commi$$ioner/organizer. Old money is bucking against the new jacks (i.e. Dolan/Buss v Cuban/Gilbert). Sweetener and clear winner$ will be those who own their venues with the inaugural games in U$. What Steady and Cooley and Statesman would do for a piece of that action.
Steady and steadfast as paint dries.
Steady, I am one of those @$$ that still need more proof Lin is the real deal. Either way, looks like we are gonna need a "serviceable" pg besides Lin and probably at the vet's min. I like Sessions, DJ Augustine, Bayless, Pargo & Hinrick in that order. We have to hope 1 of them falls though the cracks unsigned. Also,I like Foye, Mayo,Lou Williams & Rush as possible 2-guards if the money was there. However, with Kidd & maybe Camby using the biggest $, we have to wait to see who is available for Vet's min. Who u thinkin' for "serviceable" pg?
I would not allow other teams dictate who I have running the point. K idd is done and the leadership/experience is overblown. The Knicks need a guy with fresh legs and some zips. A guy that can use his speed to get some easy baskets. A guy that can get some steals. The Knicks have to work hard for their points because they lack quickness & speed. This could be Felton, Sessions, or I would look to acquire Darren Collison. He's now a backup in Indiana, but he could start for the Knicks.
Also I would let JR Smith go. He's one dimesional and does not performwell against the top teams.
Peace & Blessings
@Post_up_Prince I like him, but if he's so great why were the brains at MSG ready to throw him in as a piece in the Nash Fiasco?
100% agree PUP. At 39 we are probably going to see Nash have many injuries this season, potentially season ending ones and then we Exhale big! Haven't we been to the playoffs the last two year with Billups , Davis and other older players injured??? Enough of that. I'll take Felton or Jameer Nelson until next year when Paul is unrestricted.
In fact my New handle will be CP32penplaza.
@Steady Agree 101% on World Cup idea.America was once the Land of the Free, Now it is the Land Of The Cable. If it can be hyped, slapped and wrapped, it can be sold. You're paying for water, can air be far behind? The Olys are making money for someone else.Nuthin' But Acquisitions has to be doing the subtractions.A piece of a world cup beats lending our product to another money-makin' org for NUTtin'.Some players get misty eyed representing our country. They need to spend more time visiting VA hospitals. The owners get MISTY-eyed thinking about a billion people worldwide coughing up some cable change for a world's championship. Is it doable?Ask the NCAA football committee.Where's there's shyte, there's flies. If you really love the game, play it with your kid or your buds.Maybe Bloomberg will figure out the coin operated schoolyard, the penny a point rim, the $200 dollar a pair kicks, oops, my bad, we all ready got that!In 1939 The NY Renaissance won the World's Championship of Basketball in Chicago.A "World's Cup", no big deal, old hat, it's been done.
lgh(let's go humanity)
@dltknicks LOL Steady sees the self-deprecating humor and joins in laughter. If Scriptology holds and the current collusion culture continues, then look at the rejects in Toronto and LA LA land. Toronto had no business overpaying fields but that was a chess move gone checkers. Sessions was a once coveted rook which may become a check mate. TWT
I would like that Peaceman. Linsanity dies quickly when you're losing. Ray's got game for now. MSG looking dollars from Lin.
Post_up_Prince 199 pts " With Nash gone, Knicks will now likely go after Jason Kidd or Ray Felton (or both)."
If Knicks do attain Felton, it does not mean they pass on Lin. They may keep all three. Bibby and Baron D are gone. Most teams carry at least 3 pgs. If that happens, you heard it here first. Then again, they may let Lin go and play the season with the 2 vets, and go after CP3 next year as you predict.. How they can manage the salary cap with Stat, Melo, Chandler & CP3 (who will want a max $100 million contract) is a big question. I guess Stat and Lin (if resigned) would have to go to Clips. Otherwise the luxury tax will be overwhelming. At any rate, its getting interesting. LGK
@Statesman Steady senses a warming to the Kidd factor. This warming will be global come jump ball or what May.
Woody would do well to work with the wood for his worst worker on the parkay wood. In other words, as we have come to know and appreciate in these here parts, the culprit shall sit.
Woodrow may have been applying for the job when he proclaimed that the team will go through Melo and he will have volume shots. Now that he's got the job maybe he will play and coach to win the chip as opposed to just showing up to the Finals. Melo may have seen and learned from the LBJ transformation. Mecca faithfuls (hadjis) deserves IT.
Let me clarify. The point guard is to help the team get easy baskets via, steals, run-outs etc. I continue to advocate a pass-first point. No double talk here. My major point was young legs, a youngin. Look at Rhondo. He gets the Cs easy baskets by breaking down defense, steals, or geting out and running. The Knicks as currently constructed are ntathletic, or should I say tht they lack quickness. J-Kidd will get out and run, but he looks like an elderly personon the highway in the far left lane refusing to get to the right.
He slows everyoe down.
Regarding Melo and who tells him to shoot less to make the team better. That comes from the coach or within. Ex. IT was averaging 24 -25 pts a game before Chuck Daley took over. They were losers. Daley told him that he neede to score less, and wait until crunch time to take over. Look at IT's scoring numbers and you will see that he sacrificed to win. Does Melo have IT in him?
Peace & Blessings
@Statesman @Steady Wow, totally agree on other teams not dictating our future, good orgs don't play catch-up, and JR is a coach's nightmare. He's lucky Woody needs a science project. With JR you never know who's gonna show up, Dr. Frankenstein or Mr. Hyde.It will be interesting to see what his other offers are.Still waiting for those as we speak.Israel and the Phillipines are on hold.China hung up.
As for leadership, that is an under-rated quality, you don't have it on a team and it goes nowhere.JKidd was a great player, great leader and he can help.3 mil is definitely chump change, because that's about what the Knicks are offering JR.We'll see if that shoe fits.By the way, how much is Fields making in TO?
I do also agree we need some youth as insurance for Lin besides Kidd.Collison is a great choice, like him a lot, but I don't think Walsh is in the mood to help JuvenileD, who disrespected him miserably.Miserable people do miserable things.Felton is ok too.Sessions I haven't really seen.
We are getting dogged because we are broke.Used all our money on three guys who don't fit together.Kidd is supposed to be the crazy glue.In addition JD's got to be pissed because he's gonna have to use his LinLotto money to pay for that third year, easy come, easy go...Too bad, I feel the same whenever I buy an overpriced ticket to watch millionaires ignore each other.Damn, it's hot out here!
@Statesman Does Statesman still see the need for a PG to get himself easy baskets? Was it not Statesman in these here parts advocating for a pass first PG who allows Melo and STAT to be scorers? What about the need to have chemistry? Which one among the candidates you covet would have the gravitas to get Melo to play within the team concept/construct when JD has already given him the keys to Mecca and Madame Troussaud immortalized him in Gotham? Felton is a known quantity and he would readjust his game to fit in under the NY scrutiny. Would he push back on this MSM frenzy about NYK being Melo's team? These talents come at a hefty price unless the collusion works and viable US young talents like Sessions, Telfair, Felton, etc. get frozen out from the frenzy and have to settle for vet min.
@Tman I believe Knick brass hesitated on giving Shump away and looked for a 3rd team to fashion a trade for Nash. Hopefully, Shump's injury is one from which he can recover and return at full strength.
