Although the Nets and Nuggets have agreed on players that would be included in a proposed blockbuster trade, the Knicks and Nuggets are scheduled to hold a conference call on Friday afternoon, a high ranking Knicks official tells The News.
The four main players on the conference call will be Dolan, the Chairman of Madison Square Garden, as well as Knicks president Donnie Walsh. Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke and Nuggets general manager Masai Ujiri will also be on the call. * New York Daily News!
Anthony said Friday that he isn't aware of a meeting with Prokhorov. In all likelihood, Anthony is hoping that the Knicks and Nuggets can agree on a deal before he meets with Nets officials, including Mikhail Prokhorov, the team owner, as well as minority owner Jay-Z.
What's up fellas. Like everybody else (except you Peace), I've been going back and forth on whether we sell the farm for Melo, and at this point I think that we have to and let the chips fall where they may. Melo would put us in the hunt for a chip and that is all you can really ask for -- being in the hunt. While Chandler, Gallo, and Felton are not 'role players", they are not game changers either. Only two teams in the last 30 years ever won a chip without two clear cut all-stars (2004 Pistons; 1994 Rockets).
As Peace said, the Chandler contract situation throws another wrench in this which makes me want to make the move more. An outside chance for CP3 is also enticing. If not, I think that the Knicks have an advantage over other teams to acquire "role players". They could always over pay for that mid-level exception because once they commit to going over the cap, they can go all the way over. Or they can flip expiring contracts for overpaid role players. Yes these were Isiah tactics which don't pan out when you have no superstars to build around, but work quite well with Amare and Melo as a core.
In such an event a Jamal Crawford would become a critical 6th man role player -- not the first option! Need a rebounder? Overpay Reggie Evans or somebody like that. need a backup point. give him a 6-year mid-level when no one else will. Of course this is all contingent on the next CBA.
If you build a house, you have to look at what it can become. And right now, we might be the 5th seed for the next five years. Maybe the C's slip in a couple of years, but the Heat, Bulls, and Magic are all fairly young and ain't going no where.
Pull the trigger on the deal.
DOLAN IN CONTROL OF NEGOTIATIONS::
Source: Frank Isola, Stefan Bondy, and Mitch Lawrence of the New York Daily News;
Knicks president Donnie Walsh and head coach Mike D'Antoni are reportedly not in favor of making the trade with Denver. The News reported Thursday on its website that (Jim) Dolan, Stan Kroenke, Walsh and Nuggets GM Masai Ujiri had had a conference call to discuss the deal. It was during that conversation that the Knicks agreed to trade (Danilo) Gallinari.A Knicks source said Friday that with Dolan assuming control of the negotiations and being the lone Knicks official to meet with (Carmelo) Anthony on Thursday, ultimately the decision to make the deal will be his."The Knicks are giving up a lot, but I can't imagine Jim's ego allowing himself not to do the deal," the source said. "Denver wanted to deal directly with Jim because they feel he'll be more willing to make the trade."
WALSH AND DANTONI ARE NOT IN FAVOR OF MAKING THE TRADE WITH DENVER??????? TIME FOR JIMMY BOY TO FIRE THEM BOTH AND BRING US A REAL COACH. BRIING IN JERRY SLOAN OR JEFF VAN GUNDY.
FU#K WALSH & MIKE NO D.......
Did Melo sign yet, well if he didn't he should and probably will.More on why.
First, Melo wants NY, Le Bron didn't.Ever been in a one way love affair?LA has two big boys, why would they trade two young guys, very messy situation for Dwight?Dwight may see a Carmelized NY as a good fit, we actually need each other. As for the money, where there is a will, there may be a way. There are a few pluses even beyond the ones stated in this article. If we keep Gallo where are his minutes coming from, not Melo.We lose nothing defensively with G's departure.Grant you he tries harder but he is a poor defender who is in foul trouble because quick 3's go at him immediately.Melo is universally feared and for good reason.Chandler is a bigger loss but then we couldn't sign him anyway unless we committed to big money. So he was probably gone too.I like him but he is not a star and this is now a star's league. The Knicks may have overpaid for Melo, but not by much. They'll be entertaining, plus most important we keep Fields, thanks, and now the pressure is on D'Antoni to win with stars.Nash saved his ass in Phoenix. Now he has firepower and a new computor at PG. We'll see if seven seconds saves his ass again.D wins in this league so this is not a big winner yet.But with a defensive monster in the middle you will now have mucho firepower. We are legit. This could be very attractive to Dwight eventually.Standing pat guaranteed no shot at Dwight. Why would he come to a rebuild when he could be the final missing piece on a young chip pretender where he is the 3rd star?I would prefer a better defensive team, but Chauncey is an upgrade at both ends.Sorry, Felt, but he's better, raises everyone's game, just watch. The unfortunate part of all this is that Walsh probably won't be here to take a shot at bringing Dwight or another, maybe take a shot at Odin, in.For now, if Carmelo wants to come, it's a step in a good direction. They will definitely be more fun to watch.
Paul In 2012 Becomes Factor With New Trade Offer From Knicks!
The Knicks have increased their offer to Denver for Carmelo Anthony, including Danilo Gallinari in the package.
The standing offer is now Gallinari, Raymond Felton, Wilson Chandler and Eddy Curry's expiring contract for Anthony, Chauncey Billups and Anthony Carter.
"There are other elements involved," said a source from the Knicks.
This refers to the belief that acquiring Anthony now will lead to New York signing Chris Paul in 2012 when he becomes a free agent and cap space is created by the expiring contract of Chauncey Billups. Like Anthony and LeBron James, Paul is represented by CAA.

Carmelo Anthony has informed people close to him that he will not sign an extension with the Nets, according to sources.
Anthony has had a longstanding preference to play for the Knicks.
The New York Knicks have improved their offer to land Carmelo Anthony, proposing a deal that could give the Denver Nuggets three potential starters for their All-Star forward, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. The Knicks offered a choice of forward Danilo Gallinari or rookie guard Landry Fields on Friday, and Denver officials preferred Gallinari, a source with knowledge of the talks said. The proposed deal would send Gallinari, point guard Raymond Felton, forward Wilson Chandler, Eddy Curry’s expiring contract and a first-round pick to the Nuggets for Anthony, point guard Chauncey Billups, Renaldo Balkman and Shelden Williams. The Knicks have been reluctant to give up Gallinari, but now appear willing to do so after the Nuggets assembled the framework of a blockbuster trade with the New Jersey Nets in recent days. One league source confirmed a New York Daily News report that Knicks owner Jim Dolan had met with Anthony in Los Angeles.Dolan “is doing everything he can to get him,

BALKMAN = DEFENSE...REMEMBER HE LED THE KNICKS IN BLOCKS!
BRING HIM HOME WHERE HE WON TWO CHIPS IN THE GARDEN!
ALBEIT NIT..... BUT ANT CHIP IN THE GARDEN IS SIGNIFICANT.
Getting Melo now matters, but I believe the cost of including both Gallo and Chandler is too high. I have no problem in moving Felton for Billups or dumiping E Curry's fat contract for a draft choice (preferably without A. Randolph included),
Gallo and Chandler are more than just role players--Gallo has improved his D, his rebounding and his ability to get to the line. He is perhaps the best foul shooter on the team and when his 3 ball is on, he spreds the floor for everyone else.
Chandler is very underrated--he actually plays D better than Melo, rebounds more, can shift to the 2, 3 or 4 spots on the court, and blocks shots--something Melo rarely does. His offense has also improved. When healthy he was putting up 20+ points earlier in the season. Based on the last two games, his O is coming back and he often comes through in crunch time. I would prefer to keep Chandler over Gallo, but including both in this
package strikes me as excessive.
Unless there is another move out there for the Knicks to attain a rebounding forward or center, I wonder who will replace the 14-15 rebounds that both Gallo and W Thrill provide?. On paper, the Knicks will lose the better defenders (Chandler, Gallo and Felton--as opposed to Melo and Billups.) True, Melo's offense can cover alot of sins, but the Knicks will need other options on O and especially rebounding on D to compete with Boston, Miami, Orlando and Chicago. B. Walker and S. Williams are seviceable backups, but they are backups and often inconsistent.
Let's hope that Azubuike can return soon and play at his old form; lets also hope that Walsh has something in the works for a rebounding center/forward defender before next Thursday's trade deadline.
Dolan needs to set parameter and then get the fycke out of the room before he gives the Garden away.Let Walsh do his job.
"The Knicks have offered Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Eddy Curry’s expiring contract and a No. 1 pick they still need to acquire for Anthony and Chauncey Billups. It’s a proposal the Nuggets are seriously considering, a Knicks source said.
“They’re still in it, definitely,” one person debriefed on the talks said.
“The Nets are serious, but it’s not been concluded.”
One Knicks source said, “We’re not out of it at all. We’re still talking.”
The new Knicks offer doesn’t include prized rookies Timofey Mozgov and Landry Fields. Reportedly, the Nuggets told the Knicks they want Gallinari over Fields.
“It’s fluid,” a second Knicks source said. “We’re trying to stay in it. We’ll know where we stand by the end of the weekend.”
You can tell Denver is a bunch of dumbasses if they want Gallo over Fields.Fields is the top rebounding guard in the league as a rook besides all his other pluses. His ceiling is unknown, can you say the same for Gallo?Let Walsh do his thing. The above deal is more than enough.Mosgov stays, don't give away more than you have to.Jersey is just being jerked anyhow, Melo didn't make that deal before, how is now different? No'D is upset because his godson is going. He don't realize if Zeke comes in the bus is right behind him.Zeke played for DEE-Troit!They played both sides of he court.D'Ant is done in NY.Good!Zeke,I don't know...well, maybe he can stay out of his own way.Nah, he can't, ask his daughter.Maybe we'll get rid of both of them somehow?L-really-GK
According to one rival executive, it "looks like the Nets have been used for leverage." That role is usually played by the Knicks.

Rookies and Sophs play tonight at All Star Weekend (TNT TV)
at 9:00 p.m. EST. Chance to see Fields play alongside Griffin, Cousins, Favors and Wall. Sophs have great guard tandem in Rose and Curry, but little size up front.
peace, looking to pick up my LBE stats after the break. Haven't mastered "work-life balance" this year so far...
@MODI As usual..Modi is the voice of pure unbiased reason. Where you been Modi? Looking forward to you being at more of our LBE as the Knicks become " in the hunt" after Monday 2-21-11.
@MODI I'd pull the trigger if it's Chandler, Gallo, Felton, Curry's expiring and the 1st rounder from flipping Randolph to the Wolves. No arguing there.
@Peaceman A deal along the Knicks offer of Chandler, Gallinar, Felton, Curry's expiring and the 1st rounder is doable. Adding Mozgov and Fields over Gallinari to make Mikey and his godson happy. NO WAY! AGAIN I'M DONE IF DOLAN FUCKS THIS UP! DONE!
Stick to your principles gentlemen. If the owner of the flagship franchise choses to (in a Steinbrenner fashsion) overrule your position about the Denver request of Gallo/Chandler/Felton for Carmelo and Chauncey, then march right in to Mr. Dolan's office at Mecca and slam your resignations on his desk. You both have good reasons to walk away right now. The NYK have been fleeced in every transaction since you got here Donnie and your honest Don (lauded by your MSM apologists as poker) face was needed to placate a rabid/racist MSM and fan base who erroneously believed that there was a correlation between ABS and IT. There was none and that is why MSG was found liable, not IT. Mike, your SOP otherwise known in these here parts as SSOM has been known to be entertaining and good for getting players paid. Beyond that, IT is clear that you will not have the tools you like to have going forward. Gallo is as good as gone. You made a promise to your boy about protecting his son in the NBA and now must go your separate ways. If you play your cards right, there are three teams that will be looking for an X-O-checker. Here's a tip: Don't call WWW or Leon Rose because that water is poisoned by your pouting and childish treatment of Eddy Curry, Roger Mason, and Anthony Randolph. Furthermore, this New York thing was never for you Mike so leaving now will allow you time to find your D. Those summavabeaches in NY took it from you after the first season, after watching your teams play. Those are some covetous types out there in the Big City so don't be surprised that they're looking at the next Jump-Off or Chick-on-da-side to replace the pieces you've inflated with faux stats. Don't hang your heads gentlemen, you did what you thought was best but IT is a BuSiness--nothing personal. Ask Jerry Sloan and Jeff Van Gundy.

@Post_up_Prince Prince...& O&B.... I respect your opinions, however, lets break this down....
"Gallo and Chandler are more than just role players--"
Here I dissagree emphatically. Chandler may be more than average but New York will not have the Cap space to resign him.
Also do Chandler or Gallo start on the lakers, Heat, Spurs, Celtics? I would say not. Watch the D-league All Star game today
(as New York will with a microscope). There are many who would fill roles the knicks need. You state about Gallo
"and when his 3 ball is on, he spreds the floor for everyone else." True...but how often can you count on Gallo to show up? Look at our record...we are what our record states.
I don't think it's hyperbole to say the Window is open this year for the Knicks When the Melo/Billups trade goes down. The window is similar to 1999...when we played the Spurs for the chip. See how Amare has improved his game? Melo will also improve even more than Amare. Melo is a decent rebounder and at 26 years old playing where he dreamed of...... Melo will be unstoppable. Amare has stepped up his defense and Melo will follow. Melo is a very good passer and Amare will benefit from the way Melo takes the ball to the hole as both need double teaming. Here's where Billups becomes "the MVP" of the knicks. He has experience and a Chip to lead this knick team to the finals. It may be his last stand...and he knows it.
I pray we hold on to Fields and Randolph...it looks like we may.
Gallo, Chandler, Felton, Curry's Expiring and a future #1 draft pick may be all we have to give up. I believe Randolph being in Dantoni's dog house may be a blessing .... he may have flown under the Radar in the Melo talks ..or it may have been the Knicks Managment "sandbagging" him for this very moment.
Be whatever the Reason...Randolph won't be a deal breaker and if he is still a knick next Thursday.... Watch him become a force next to Melo & Amare. If Mozgov is included in the trade, watch Randolph become what we thought he could be with all his potenial speed & size. Hammady Nydia is available as is our Center Jerome Jordan who is playing in Europe and a call to Morris Almond is not out of the question
Now back to the 1999 "Window" we have facing us this year.
When Melo & Billups join Amare..we have our big three.
Miami is "ripe" for the knicks to beat... they won't have a Clue or the players to stop the Amare or Melo inside attack. I like our Big three of Melo, Amare and Billups over Wade, Bosh and James. Chances are Boston will take care of the Magic and/or the Bulls. That leaves us a very good chance of beating an ageing Celtic team in a 7 game series. Next up will be the Lakers or the Spurs... both teams have seen their better days
as Melo's Nuggets 2 years ago had the Lakers 3-2 in the semi-finals. Problem was Melo didn't have Amare! The youth of Amare & Melo beat both an ageing Laker or Spur team in the Finals. However, don't be surprized to see the Thunder as the WCC. If so....here is where Billups shines as a true floor General.... the Window is open to beat such a young and inexperienced team in the finals.
I think everyone who has any doubts about Melo... will be fleeting once he puts on the Orange & Blue. Melo brings it every night and currently doesn't really care. Imagine him caring? Imagine him stepping up his game on both ends? Melo is currently the best scorer on the planet with Kevin Durant being a close 2nd. Kobe is past his prime. Durant has a better range than Melo but Melo is second to none from 12 feet away and no one gets to the free throw line more than Melo. We have not seen Melo's best.... we will in the Garden and our LBE are going to be off the chain! As Statesman said " Melo is this decades " Bernard King" which I 100% cosign. Don't worry
O&B.... you will not be dissapointed with Melo's game one bit.
He's not known for his defense.. but watch him step it up
BECAUSE HE CAN. He knows he will have to lead by example
and the World will be watching him.....and he will be ready to bring it on both ends.
Fact! When the trade smoke clears...we know who we will have left on our bench. Douglas, Rautins, Williams, Mason and Walker. All have to step up their Games which is not impossible and because Melo & billups make everyone around them better...they all will.
If the trade goes down as expected and Melo and Billups join Amare.....The Knicks will be the 2010-11 World Champs.
The date is 2-19-2011 and I stand by that statement and will refer back to it PRN. All I ask is that my fellow bloggers watch and enjoy the ride. All the "who's gonna's.ie defense & rebounds" will be answered on the court while we LBE.
PEOPLE GET READY...THERE'S A TRAIN A COMMING, THERE'S NO NEED TO WORRY JUST GET ON BOARD!
@Post_up_Prince Whatever hapens happens at this point. If the Knicks offer of Will and Gallo plus Felton, Curry and the 1st rounder is it. Then so be it.Anymore than that is the marginot line that must be defended.
I'm glad it wll be over soon. And you know what, if Melo does come, I'm going to be real critical of him if he's lax on Defense. You want to be in NY then EARN IT! (See saving private ryan)
@OrangeandBlue We are virtually on the same page--extortion by a superstar who want's what he wants when he wants it and is not willing to sacrifice 4-5 more months in Denver or elswhere so that he can come to a stronger team in a place where he wants to play and can more effctively compete for a ring. With all the Knick draft choices gone until 2014 and the 3-4 players being sent away to get back Melo, what assets (including cap space--after Curry's contract goes and Melo is paid off) to attain (1) a bona fide center and (2) a back-up point guard before July 2013, when CP3 becomes available?. And will a new NBA CBA provide the Knicks enough cap space to sign CP3 at that time?
We may know more after that 4;00 p.m. conference call between Knick and Nugget owners & GM's. I assume 4:00 p.m. is EST-- unless its Pacific Time-- so that we may know nothing until after the All Star Game on Sunday night (TNT 7:30 p.m.) I am sure that would be Stern's preferred time for an announcement. Where is Wikileaks when needed?
@Post_up_Prince Prince, I'm as split as you are abot how many players the Knicks will have to give up to get Melo. Melo's not helping and he won't push the Nuggets to demand a trade b/c he feels that then Denver will just hold onto him past the deadline and into the unknown of the upcoming offseason.
I'm inclined to think that in an ideal world, you give up either Chandler or Gallinari plus felton plus a 1st rounder (Curry's expiring is expected). Or you give up Chandler and Gallinari not Felton plus the 1st rounder.
I'm hoping the 1st rounder offered isn't from flipping Randolph. We'll need Randolph aboard to help on the WIngs, sure he's not as polished as Will or Gallo.
Sadly such is the world the collusion of mgt in Minny ad Boston and LA and Memphis and Superteam have created. Building from the ground up is being sold as insufficient. I'm going to miss WIll and Felton most.
THen again if the deal doesn't go down, I'll be ok with it.
@Tman "No'D is upset because his godson is going. He don't realize if Zeke comes in the bus is right behind him.Zeke played for DEE-Troit!They played both sides of he court.D'Ant is done in NY."
Freaking Classic T'Man. Go get em Mr. T!!!!!!!
@Steady Man may the world be turning up side down for our Knicks where wrongs are righted?
@LFJeremy I just stumbled over myself on that one!
@Post_up_Prince Yeah Jimmy make IT happen!
@Steady Hope so Steady! I'm wondering if my fellow fanatics realise the how important the next 6 days are to us as die hard fans of a team we loved that did not love us back. How happy were we as Ewing became our hope in 1985 when most of us were in high school or college and have childhood memories of the Championship years? Do we fanatics realise that the tandom of Amare & Melo will lift our hearts to the stars because they will win a chip....despite whomever else is on the team. Most of our collected youth is in faded picture with a broken glass and we are running out of time to "Go up for Glory." I want to be at a Knick championship parade with every fanatic without using a walker 20 years from now! I SAW MELO IN SYRACUSE AS THE CHOSEN ONE. The Creator has shown him his Path. March Maddness is replaced this year with Melo Maddness as the lights in the Garden will be on in JUNE! Bet your LUNGS and Hearts!
