In the span of a week the Los Angeles Clippers have gone from a Knicks nuisance to a Knicks hero and then villian. Along the way they have expanded their presence in the Los Angeles area and gained a step on their Staple Center co-tenant Lakers, while perhaps inspiring the cross river and soon to be cross borough Nets to think bigger.
On the one hand, I was relieve the Clippers cast the winning bid on the services of former Knicks guard Chauncey Billups via the amnesty waiver process. Yep that Billups the former Knicks guard who expressed frustration with the latest twist in his career after being amnestied for the Knicks to secure Tyson Chandler. The Clippers' acquisition of Billups spared the Knicks from Billups' ire, which was on full display in a yahoo sports interview. I for one am glad Chauncey won't be directing the rival Heat, Nets or Magic (hat tip to the league also for insisting that Billups not usurp the new amnesty process).
On the other hand, the Lakers little brother were reportedly all over the place in proposed trades for Chris Paul. How dare they? Don't the Clipper's know that "Chris Paul will be a Knick?"
Apparently not. Today the Clippers went all in and landed Paul in a trade that cost them upcoming shooting guard Eric Gordon and the unprotected 2012 draft pick the Clips acquired from the Timberwolves. As part of the transaction, Paul reportedly has agreed to not opt out at the end of the 2011-12 season and will remain with the Clippers until the end of the 2012-13 season. With Paul on board for two season the Clippers will have the opportunity to build around a Blake Griffin/Chris Paul star combination. A tandem that is picking up steam with the acquisition of Caron Butler, the resigning of DeAndre Jordan and the acquisition of Chauncey Billups veteran leadership.
Damn them little brother Clippers, they may even inspire those pesky Nets to ramp up their efforts to land Dwight Howard to the Brooklyn bound franchise Despite Orlando's insistence to the contrary. Damn I hate sibling rivalries. But at least the Knicks can now focus on addressing their areas of need and building up the team they actually have.
In Chris Paul's conference he said "I'm excited to be here in L.A. with this unbelievable franchise with so much history behind it,"
He must have been talking about the Lakers HAHA
What do people feel about giving Rashad McCants an invite to camp... giving him a 2nd chance in the league?
Anyone else think that Peaceman should refrain from blogging about NBA deals? I see the "Why Jamal Crawford Will Choose The Knicks" story was pulled. That because it was founded on pure opinion and not fact? He just inked a deal with Portland for 2 yrs (which every NBA writer predicted based on proximity to his hometown and more money). A lot of people got their hopes up over that "CP3 IS A Knick" which was then changed to "CP3 Will Be A Knick!" which is now "CP3 agrees to opt in for 2 yrs with Clippers" (don't believe what you're reading here. He will not bounce out of LA after this season).
Not trying to be mean, but someone has to call out bullshit, inaccurate reporting based on "sources" here.
So Shawne williams is gone and we have no bench. We need to get some bodies because the second unit is not looking good at all.
Where can I find this handshake deal? I hardly believe he would screw them over like that even though I hope he does
A promising start to offseason of adding players is turning ugly. Bench has gotten weaker, TD has much to prove as point guard, Bibby sucks. Not looking great right now. Hope management has good answers for our problems. I smell a trade or two coming real fast. Can't start the season with roster we have right now.
Hey what about Michael Redd? lol I would give him another chance, he is to tear us apart with those quick three pointers.
The Clippers are considering signing Crawford or Arron Afflalo in a sign and trade for Eric Bledsoe
FYI, not to beat a dead horse but Paul, set to be a free agent at season's end, agreed not to opt out of his contract if the Clippers acquired him. It was a hand shake not a signed agreement. He could legally be on the market next year.
However ..done with that.
Jamal is still not signed anywhere. Anyone think that due to Paul being gone that Jamal may sign with the Knicks knowing that they won't send him to NOH in a package? The Knicks screwed him once before...maybe he'll now consider a deal at less money? Please..I don't want bad back Barron Davis.
@Lunchbox27 The Crawford article was pure opinion. My own! No source was put down! You have the right to your opinion ..but come on man...chill! Hopefully We are Knick fans...with no other motives!
@Lunchbox27 STFU and GTFO. It was one time chill out.
@jsk793 damn we got all excited with the Chandler signing and the possibility of a CP3 now all the other pieces we need are going elsewhere. and it looks like they are going to go after BDavis if he makes it through the waiver. really don't want him. If you never believed in luck b4 you better now
@Knicks_For_Life Right in the thread above " Paul reportedly has agreed to not opt out at the end of the 2011-12 season" Paul is playing under his former contract with NOH is FACT. He has not signed an extension. When and if he does it will be disclosed with for public knowledge of length and monetary value.
@fmart1557 I'm thinking of players like Morris Almond a 6'6 shooting guard now in Europe and even former 2nd round pick 6'9 Demetrius Nichols. They would cost us literally nothing and are hunrgry and super under rated.
You may remember both from being Knicks on Summer league
@Peaceman damn the Clippers are off da hook now, acting like a legit contender and spending $$$ too bad they won't make the playoffs lol
Jamal has agreed to sign with Portland. See Alan Hahn's retweet from Sam Amick. @Peaceman
@Peaceman Hornets needed to get real assets for Paul... what better owner to screw over than Donald Sterling...
Would serve Clippers right after management supposedly informed players not to worry because no trade was going to happen. I am sure E. Gordon and rest of traded players feel betrayed. There is no loyalty. It's as they say, "Business"!
@Lunchbox27 My Source was wrong ..albeit the first time. I did admit that and moved on.And please provide me your link to where Paul has signed an extension other than the one which was transferred. Not trying to be mean but you want to call out bullshit while you put some out there yourself!
Try responding like a mature adult instead of cursing me out, Mr. Knicks_For_Life. In no way did I insult Peaceman as a human being. I state this in my last sentence. I'm simply criticizing the integrity of these headlines. In no way was my post filled with rage or anger, so there's no need to chill out. I think it's your duty as a forum for fans to do a better job of reporting any big stories.
Here's the link to Crawford's deal: http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/7356504/atlanta-hawks-free-agent-jamal-crawford-agrees-portland-trail-blazers-according-sources. And don't pull the response of: "The word 'agree' doesn't mean he's signed a contract" because if you look at his latest Tweet, he's thanking all the teams he's met with that he won't be signing with: https://twitter.com/#!/JCrossover, along with everyone congratulating him on signing with Portland, which he thanks them for.
And yes, I am a Knick fan. Since '94 when I first became interested in basketball. @Knicks_For_Life
@Peaceman So lets just say he opts out. What happens in free agency?
@fmart1557 Your right there..it is a Business with no Loyalty. Blake Griffin is a Monster.. however the way he plays with reckless abandon...how long before he's hurt again?
I don't want B Davis... hope we sign S Williams TODAY and be done on that front!
@Lunchbox27 Why Obama will win next year against any GOP candidate?... Lunchbox27 ..how is that so misleading ..as you refer to my Crawford opinion? Please clarify! I'm not trying to be a Jerk!
I'm sorry if it came across to you as such!
Hell, there's confirmation of this all over the web. Just Google it: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-trailblazers-crawford. See the headline with the word "signs" in it? That type of reporting was what I thought this site was providing. THAT is the basis for my criticism here. If you're questioning my intentions, just reread my comment above. This sums it up concisely: "If this blog was simply to discuss the team and express opinions, that's great (take Orange and Blue's article, which we're all commenting on right now). I'm all for that. But that's not how the last few stories by Peaceman have been phrased."
Fact is, I know there's other readers of this site equally as disappointed because they read those headlines and stories and believed them to be true, only to be let down. Proclamations of that sort require integrity and validity, or else they should include statements to clarify that uncertainty of them i.e. rumor is, word is.@Knicks_For_Life @Peaceman
Works for me: http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2011/12/15/2638603/jamal-crawford-portland-trail-blazers-signs-deal. You can get to it via their home page as well: http://www.sbnation.com/. Nice try though... @Knicks_For_Life @Peaceman
Who's talking about Paul? I simply said your headlines have been extremely misleading re: Paul. I've moved on from that and provided you with proof that Crawford signed with Portland, despite your story about him choosing the Knicks. You then proceeded to call bullshit on that story because I called bullshit on yours.
If you were commenting on the difference between "sign" and "agree" with regards to Paul, then why follow that with "So a twitter is your bar for legal contract?" The Twitter link I provided had to do with Crawford confirming ESPN's story about going to Portland. It had nothing to do with CP3 and his Clippers deal. Oh and if you want the word "sign" included with this Crawford story, here you go: http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2011/12/15/2638603/jamal-crawford-portland-trail-blazers-signs-deal.
@Lunchbox27 Not about Crawford ..about Paul. Paul is playing under his NOH contract and his word and hand shake is the only indication of him playing there in 2012-13. It is not legal. I'm sure if Paul has a career threating injury this year..The Clips sure won't sign a a Max contract in 2012!
See my comment above for clarification. Why rush to judgement on me, stating I, too, am putting out bullshit? You saying that is the equivalent of throwing rocks in the playground. The headline about Crawford is officially confirmed all over the web. I only speak based on validity. Not hearsay. @Peaceman
I said "Anyone else think that Peaceman should refrain from blogging about NBA deals?" Not that he should stop blogging altogether. I can admit that wasn't the best way to start off my critique, so consider that retracted, Peaceman. My point is a valid one and hopefully it will serve as constructive criticism for future postings of that nature.
At least I didn't resort to Latrell Spreewell vs. Carlisimo tactics ;)
Wrong. Those media outlets reported the first Laker deal with certainty because it was official. No one knew Stern would swoop in and veto the trade at the 11th hour, so that's a bad example. The second Lakers deal was always followed by a question mark OR they would say that the Lakers and Hornets have resumed talks, which was the truth. Even you made a big point of the semantics (i.e. "talk" isn't a deal). Same with the Clippers until it was confirmed that it went through this time.
As for Obama; it looks to many as though he'll defeat the GOP again, but no blog, website, or news source would ever go as far as to proclaim that.
Look, I'm not looking for a constant back and forth. The only reason I've even been engaging in it is because every response you or Knicks_For_Life have made against me has been incorrect (i.e. I'm only here to be a dick to you, Crawford story unvalidated, I spew bullshit, etc). Not once have I used profanity against anyone here, nor have I slandered anyone with false accusations. I felt the need as a reader of this blog to comment on the lack of facts in some recent headlines that purported themselves to be true.
There's a lesson to be learned here through this debacle. Express any source's news more carefully. Words like "could, might, possible, unconfirmed" or any variation thereof would take the heat off you as you're only relaying what you've heard. That would be like me writing a story on a movie blog saying "Ryan Gosling is playing Kurt Cobain in the forthcoming biopic" when I've only heard that through the grapevine, unconfirmed. As for expressing your opinion. That's wonderful. Keep it up!
Take care. I look forward to a promising season for the New York Knicks.
@Lunchbox27@Knicks_For_Life Sorry you feel that way. Then you must also stop watching ESPN/NBC/ABC?Fox Sports who all stated CP3 was traded to the Lakers twice...and the Clippers twice. The difference is that you have no access to them. I did apologize to ALL that felt as hurt as I did when the whole saga kept dragging out only to not get him!
No. In fact... look at my previous comments on the other threads on this site. They prove contrary to what you're accusing me of. In fact, Peaceman even expressed nice words to one of my comments that happened to side with his opinion.
Based on your last few comments toward me, it seems it's YOU that needs to chill out.
Peaceman, I never said Twitter is a signed contract, but it IS word from the horse's mouth that the ESPN story, which I also linked, is a fact. JC's not going to thank people for their well-wishes on his deal with Portland if at last minute he's going to reneg.
Well that's the thing, K_F_L, I originally discovered this blog because people were writing about the confirmation that CP3 is a Knick. I continued to follow the developments until they were proved wrong.
Now that I've seen how Peaceman likes to write headlines and stories, I will no longer be following this blog. I prefer the truth, not hearsay. If this blog was simply to discuss the team and express opinions, that's great (take Orange and Blue's article, which we're all commenting on right now). I'm all for that. But that's not how the last few stories by Peaceman have been phrased.
@Lunchbox27If you have such a problem with his source, and Peaceman making articles of what his source is relaying to him, then why are you here looking at his articles?
@Knicks_For_Life Once again Paul has not signed a new contract. He has verbally agreed not to opt out. Big difference from an actual contract!
Lets forget Paul..and concentrate on what we can do this year!
@Peaceman And it says he is there for 2 seasons
